Building a Peaceable Community

The Dangerous Ambiguity of guns

The Pornography of War

         New Orleans Art Center
3330  Saint Claude Avenue - NOLA

The show features the work of Namaya a military veteran, who, like Eisenhower questions the economics of war through art, word and performance. “POW: Prisoner of War in an Age of Desire.” a retrospective of Namaya’s art and multimedia work will be featured. “When people ask, Why prisoner of war? Namaya answers:  as General Eisenhower reminded us in his Cross of Iron (1953) speech, “Every dollar spent and every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms in not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, and the hopes of its children.”

Namaya and Zoe Kopp founder of B4 Peace Arts Initiative and Mark Gonzalez, a New Orleanian, invited artists from around the world to create art on Building Peace and The Deadly Ambiguity of Guns. You will be inspired by this show that will expand your worldview, using an explosion of unexpected digital images, exquisite sculptures made from weapons, textiles that look at the fabric of patriotism. Check out some of the art: and

YOU, the audience, will get to judge the art and award more than $2000 in prizes! Join US! Saturday January 13th 6-9 pm

"Collecting at its best is very far from mere acquisitiveness; it may become one of the most humanistic of occupations, seeking to illustrate by the assembling of significant reliques, the march of the human spirit in its quest for beauty..."
